Why is NVS showing a black screen instead of the video from my camera?

Answer

Camera not displaying on live view

NVS will display a black screen instead of live video if it does not detect a signal from the camera or cannot connect to the live stream from the camera. Follow the steps below to resolve the issue:

 

No Signal

 

If the channel says “no signal” in the upper-right corner or under “Recording Status” in the Monitoring section, NVS cannot connect to your camera. Follow the steps below to attempt to diagnose and resolve this issue. If “no signal” is not displayed, skip to the next section.

 

·          Check the settings in Device Manager and verify that the Device Type, IP, Port, User ID and Password are the correct values for your camera

·          Verify that you are able to connect to your camera via web browser on the same computer on which you have installed NVS

·          Disable all firewall software, including the Windows Firewall

·          If connecting to more than 1 camera that is not connected to your local network, make sure that each camera is set to a unique port

 

Black Screen

 

If the channel is just black, and does not show “no signal” in the upper-right corner, NVS has connected to your camera but cannot connect to the live stream to display a picture. Follow the steps below to attempt to diagnose and resolve this issue.

 

·          Verify that you are able to obtain a live image from your camera via a web browser on the computer on which you have installed NVS

·          If the camera supports both MJPEG and MPEG4, make sure the camera is set to MJPEG or mixed mode

·          Verify that the exact model of the camera is on the list of supported cameras

·          Disable all firewall software, including the Windows Firewall

·          Verify that your display is set to 32bit color

·          Update DirectX and your video driver to the latest versions
